The California Department of Health advises that the best approach in protecting children from the harmful effects of lead is to stop them from coming into contact with lead. Generally, that means finding the lead source and removing it from the environment. In this context, you will often see the term abatement. Abatement refers to any steps designed to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards. This includes the removal of lead-based paint and lead-contaminated dust, the permanent encapsulation of lead-based paint, replacement of lead-painted surfaces or fixtures, and the removal or covering of lead contaminated soil. It will also include all preparation, cleanup, disposal, and post-abatement clearance testing activity.

After a lead test using AAA Lead Consultants' high-tech inspection tools, the inspector will provide you with a detailed report which will pinpoint the presence of any lead hazards. Any existing lead hazards can then be effectively dealt with. If the traces of lead are safely encapsulated within stable layers of paint, nothing else needs to be done. If lead is found in exposed or peeling paint, removal by professionals is recommended. Doing the job yourself could potentially make things worse. If lead is found in water, then the source of the lead (e.g. pipes and fixtures) will need to be removed or in place management techniques implemented such as running the water for 60 seconds before use, or installing a lead removing water filter. If contaminated soil is discovered, one of our knowledgeable lead consultants can make practical suggestions for in place management of contaminated areas possibly avoiding the cost of soil removal from the site.
