Start with the age, materials and planned work
A pre-1978 construction date is an important screening signal, but the decision to test should also consider painted components, ceramic coatings, previous renovations and exactly what will be disturbed.
A professional inspection answers a project question
The scope might focus on specific components scheduled for demolition, or it may be a broader property inspection. Define whether the findings are for planning, contractor requirements, a transaction, occupant concerns or another purpose.
XRF and sampling have different roles
XRF can provide direct readings on many painted components without widespread destructive sampling. Targeted paint-chip, dust, soil or water sampling may be used when the scope requires a different matrix or confirmatory information.
Bring the report into the work plan
Testing is most useful when the results are reviewed before the work plan, containment, sequencing and documentation are finalized. AAA Lead can discuss inspection, compliance planning and project monitoring as separate project needs.
Questions to have ready when you call
- Where is the property and when was it built?
- What work is planned, and which materials will be disturbed?
- Who will rely on the report?
- Is there a bid, agency or project specification to review?
- What is the project timeline?
